Pattaya police have returned to regular police checkpoints in the Pattaya area, now even with mobile CCTV cameras, after a lengthy hiatus amid Covid19 restrictions over the past year and a half.
The near-daily checkpoints are in several locations, but the largest is on Sukhumvit Road, right in front of Banglamung Police Station. The campaign follows the policy of the Royal Thai Police to ensure that motorists strictly adhere to traffic rules.
The checkpoints aim to control traffic and road safety by using technology and CCTV mobile cameras to catch motorists who break traffic rules.
Some of the offenses that the police are looking for include strict enforcement of the speed limit, drink-driving, wearing helmets and masks, having proper insurance, registration, tax, and driver’s licenses.
The national police are also looking for illegal drugs, people who may be transporting illegal migrants, and illegal weapons.
The police claimed that it is not about money or fines, but about protecting people by following proper traffic laws.
