The hunt for a foreign miscreant who had caught parrotfish in southern Krabi province has begun

The Department of National Parks, Department of Fauna and Flora has launched the hunt for a foreign man caught on video catching parrot fish in the “Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu park” on Koh Phi Phi Park in Krabi Province.

A video clip posted to TikTok shows that the foreign man had caught three parrotfish, one moray eel and two other unidentified fish in the sea off Thailand, causing irritation and anger among Thais.

Most of the comments on social media did not lie, wanting the man himself captured as soon as possible, while others claimed his actions were against the law and that he was destroying the marine ecosystem. They also called on government agencies to take legal action against the stranger and the captain of the boat.

DNP director Ratchada Suriyakul na Ayutthaya said department officials discovered the incident had taken place on Phi Phi Leh Island in Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Park.

He said park officials had collected evidence and compared it to the video clip posted to the TikTok account “@roslanofficial”.

“Officials are currently looking for the suspect to take legal action against him,” he said.

He added that the foreigner would be charged with harming or removing animals from the national park area and/or causing damage to the ecosystem, under the National Park Act BE 2562 (2019).
