The Moderna vaccines will be selectively allocated by the Association of Thai Private Hospitals

Not everyone who has booked and PAID the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine with private hospitals will get the coveted vaccine as an allocation system will be in place, Mr. Chalerm, the chairman of the Thai Hospitals Association.

The association has placed an order for 5 million doses through the GPO, which will sign a supply agreement on their behalf with Zuellig Pharma Thailand, the local representative.

But before the allocation, 1.1 million of the 5 million doses will go to the Thai Red Cross, as well as Siriraj and Ramathibodi hospitals, leaving the private hospitals with 3.9 million doses.

A survey of demand found that 277 of the association’s 330 affiliated hospitals have booked a total of 9.2 million doses. To evenly distribute the remaining stock, all 277 hospitals will first receive 10,000 injections each. 194 hospitals get 100 per cent of their bookings, as they need less than 10,000 each.

The remaining 2.4 million doses will be allocated to hospitals proportionally based on their demand, which at this stage totals 7.7 million doses. It’s then up to each hospital to decide who would get them and how much, he said.

When asked if the association will order more vaccines, Mr Chalerm said his group was already planning to order 5 to 10 million doses of the second-generation vaccine, expected in the second quarter of next year.
