The north and south of Thailand must be alert to severe weather conditions
People in higher Thailand and the south have been warned to watch out for harsh conditions from Friday to Monday (May 6-9) due to heavy rain and gusts of wind.
The Thai Meteorological Institute predicts that from May 5-9, a moderately high-pressure area covering upper Thailand will weaken, creating haze and rising temperatures.
“However, the southerly and southeasterly winds prevailing over northern Thailand would strengthen and likely bring more rain and isolated gusty showers,” the department warned.
It said rain and isolated downpours are also forecast for the south during this time, as the easterly and southeasterly winds prevailing over the Gulf of Thailand will increase.
From today until May 9, a low-pressure cell over the Lower Bay of Bengal and the upper Andaman Sea would strengthen into a cyclone, expected to move into the upper Bay of Bengal, it said.
“From May 6-9, people must beware of harsh conditions by staying away from risky outdoor areas, large trees and unsecured billboards. Farmers must take preventive measures against crop damage,” the department advised.
“Meanwhile, people in the south should watch out for heavy rain during the entire period,” it added.
