The number of Covid19 infections shoots up in the deep south of Thailand while the infection rate in Bangkok falls

Although the number of Covid19 infections in Bangkok showed a marked decrease yesterday, infections in the four border provinces in the South increased significantly.

Narathiwat, Pattani, Songkhla and Yala provinces together registered 2,303 new cases, compared to 1,610 in Greater Bangkok, according to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration.

Yala recorded the most cases with 756, followed by 579 in Songkhla, 502 in Pattani and 466 in Narathiwat.

In an effort to control the infections, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered an ad hoc task force in the south led by his adviser, former head of the National Security Council, General Nattaphol Nakpanich.

The country also saw the arrival of 24 new cases from abroad, including 12 from Myanmar, three from Cambodia and Malaysia, two from the US and Ukraine and one from Germany and Pakistan.
