The sharp rise in infections puts Thailand on the 4th Covid19 alert level

The Thai government has predicted that infection levels will remain high for the next 1 to 2 weeks due to social gatherings, Dr Thongchai Keeratihatthayakon, the secretary at the Ministry of Health.

For the threat of level 4, the virus prevention measures will be tightened up. According to the government’s dictation, people are expected to:

– Avoid entering risky places.
– Do not gather in public places to eat and drink alcohol.
– Avoid shopping in places with a large number of people, such as markets, malls.
– Avoid socializing outside the home.
– Refraining from participating in activities according to the criteria of the Ministry of Health.
– Comply with the rule of 50 – 80 per cent of the total number of employees to work from home.
– No unnecessary interprovincial travel. If necessary, the use of a private car is strongly recommended.
– Do not go abroad.
– When you enter the country, you must stay in a quarantine facility.​

The Covid19 situation in Thailand is increasing in all age groups, especially in the workgroup and students, said Dr Chakrarat Pittayawong-anon, director of the Department of Disease Control’s Epidemiology Division.

More than 800 cases of severe Covid19 incubation or pneumonia have been identified in the past two weeks, Dr Chakra rat worried.

No symptoms were found in 53 per cent of patients with the Omicron strain, while 47 per cent had symptoms, mainly sore throat, cough and low fever. Meanwhile, Omicron BA.2 strain has been found worldwide as it spreads more than 1.4 times faster than the BA.1 strain. More than 50 per cent of cases in Thailand are BA.2 Omicron.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the military to prepare field hospitals to deal with the situation and provide support at the local level, in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

Defense Ministry spokesman General Kongcheep Tantravanich said field hospitals with 7,000 beds have been set up across the country, and some field hospitals in the army section are still in operation.
