The Thai cabinet cancels the national holiday at the end of July!
The Thai cabinet has cancelled the July 27 special holiday previously announced to boost domestic tourism amid growing concerns over the Covid19 pandemic, the plv said. government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek.
On December 29, 2020, the cabinet declared that July 27 would be a special holiday this year, allowing an extra long weekend from July 24 to 28.
July 24, 25, 26 and 28 are public holidays – Saturday, July 24 is Asarnha Bucha Day; July 25 is the beginning of Buddhist Lent; Monday, July 26 is a substitute holiday for Asarnha Bucha Day and July 28 is the King’s birthday. A special holiday on July 27 would have turned it into a five-day holiday, prompting Thai people to travel.
As the COVID19 situation in Thailand is still of great concern, people should not be encouraged to travel during this period, so the cabinet has decided to cancel the special holiday, Dhnadirek said.
The cabinet has asked government agencies to help people cancel pre-made travel tickets and room reservations.
