The Thai ONCB is going to tighten the noose around Thai drug gangs with foreign ties

The Office of Narcotics Control (ONCB) has been ordered to urgently launch an investigation into possible links to the international drug trade after a Thai national was caught with a quantity of methamphetamine in Seoul in May.

Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said he wants ONCB to check whether local drug traffickers under police surveillance are involved in crimes abroad.

“Officials must speed up the investigation and seize drug-related assets,” he warned.

Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that a 32-year-old Thai national had been arrested and charged with allegedly smuggling about 4 kilograms of methamphetamine pills into South Korea. The seized drugs have a street value of up to 13.4 billion won or 380.6 million baht.

The suspect is said to have received the drugs, hidden in bags of protein supplements, via air freight on May 6 in exchange for a payment of 200,000 baht, Yonhap reported.
