The third corona wave in Thailand can last for months
It may take more than two months to curb the latest outbreak of the Covid19 virus in Bangkok, which is concentrated around bars and nightclubs in Thonglor district, Health Ministry Secretary of State Kiatiphum Wongrajit said.
Thai health authorities believe the rapidly spreading British variant of the virus is rampant in the capital’s nightlife spots. The outbreak has now reached 20 provinces.
While it may take a month or two for the coronavirus situation to be under control across Thailand, most infections take longer in Bangkok.
12 hospitals in Bangkok have suspended the Covid19 tests due to the lack of beds. And the military is now setting up field hospitals with 3,000 beds in ten army bases. The highly contagious B.1.1.7 variant of the virus was first discovered in the UK.
Thailand’s top virologist, Yong Poovorawan, believes the British variant may have come to Thailand from Cambodia, where this type of virus has also been reported.
