The trial of the alleged two Uyghur bombers at the Erawan Shrine continues next month after a long hiatus. Thai justice is waiting for a court interpreter from China.

I remember it like it was yesterday when we had dinner at the fish restaurant “Chez Thum” in Jomtien in the evening on August 17, 2015. The television hanging in the restaurant showed horrific images of this attack that left 20 dead and more than 100 injured.

According to police, Adem Karadag placed the bomb at the Erawan shrine and Yusufu Meirili activated the explosive remotely.

Speculation continues as to the motive for the devastating attack. It could have been revenge, as the Thai government had recently deported 109 Uyghurs who had fled to Thailand to the People’s Republic.

Another theory: the attack would have caused a network that Uyghurs smuggled from China to Thailand, among other things, and was discovered by Thai authorities.

Adem Karadag (aka Bilal Mohammed), then 31, and Yusufu Mieraili, then 28, were arrested within two weeks of the attack. The two Chinese belong to the Uyghur ethnic minority in the Xinjiang region. Both have been in military custody since September 2015.

Although the police received 17 warrants after the attack, they were only able to arrest the two Uyghurs. Since then, legal proceedings against her have been postponed or postponed several times. Both Uyghurs plead innocent.
