Chonburi police yesterday arrested 30 alleged gamblers in what they described as an illegal gambling den at a Banglamung resort.
Chonburi Provincial Police raided an alleged gambling hall at a luxury resort in Takean Tia sub-district the day before yesterday (Oct. 14).
According to reports from those on the scene, it took more than five hours to open an investigation and arrest those responsible.
The 30 alleged gamblers were taken to Banglamung Police Station on multiple charges related to the incident, including violations of the emergency decree banning large gatherings that could potentially spread the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Chonburi and Banglamung police told the associated Thai press that they had seized multiple items used for gambling, gambling cards and cash, although they did not report the exact amount of cash seized to the media. .
The names of those arrested were not immediately released and the Chonburi provincial police said an investigation was underway into the gambling establishment, which is strictly illegal.
As is well known, Thailand has some of the strictest anti-gambling laws in the world, according to the Thai government, gambling has had a major impact on the spread of Covid-19 in the eastern provinces.
At the time of going to press, the 30 arrested were set to appear in court on several charges related to illegal gambling and violations of Covid-19-related warrants.
