Three lottery scammers in Loei province caught in the act

Three lottery sellers were arrested earlier this week in Loei’s Erawan district for allegedly possessing 200,000 unregistered tickets worth more than 20 million baht.

The arrest came after someone filed a complaint that a group of lottery sellers was working with postmen to inflate the price of lottery tickets, Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew of the Anti-Corruption Division said.

The first team of police and state lottery officials arrested Chaisit, 32, and Paweena, 26, 26, (surnames not listed) behind the Erawan post office. The team found more than 200 boxes of unregistered lots in a silver-grey Toyota van.

“Another team arrested Khun Kanya, 43, [name withheld] at the Bangchak gas station,” Jaroonkiat said. “They found in her bronze-colored Mitsubishi Pajero SUV.” 65 boxes of unregistered lots.

The suspects have reportedly pleaded guilty and said Erawan postal worker Pairoj (surname unknown) and his accomplices helped them smuggle lottery tickets.

“The suspects also claimed that they had to pay postmen an additional 100 baht per box that was not registered,” he added.
