The Administrative Center for Covid19 Control, the CCSA, has said it will allow travel between provinces to visit families during next month’s Songkran festival holiday, but at-risk groups must take an ATK test before traveling to go.

Meanwhile, water-throwing and other splashy activities are banned for the third year in a row.

“Those traveling in public vehicles should wear face masks at all times, wash their hands regularly and not consume food or alcohol in a vehicle,” CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin known.

After returning home, people must also remain in home isolation for seven days to monitor their symptoms before meeting other people, he added.

The CCSA does allow Songkran activities such as pouring water on Buddha statues and elderly people, as well as organizing cultural performances, music shows, and processions.

All events must be organized under the Thai Stop Covid 2 Plus (TSC2+) and Covid Free Setting standards, which include mandatory face masks, screening checkpoints, and a limit on the number of participants (one person per 4 square meters).

Selling or drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited in activity areas.

Families wishing to conduct a watering activity at home should do so in an open and well-ventilated area, he said. “Participants should wear face masks and avoid sharing meals.”

Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin also urged all family members – especially the elderly – to get themselves fully vaccinated now, in order to avoid outbreaks at Songkran rallies.
