Two Pattaya residents, including a 7-year-old child, shot when two rival groups of teenagers opened fire on each other
Two residents in this eastern coastal town, including a 7-year-old child, were gunned down late in the evening from Saturday to Sunday when two groups of young people clashed and began firing at each other.
Police arrived at the scene at a garage in Nong Prue district after being warned of a shooting incident. Upon arrival, 7-year-old Nong Moodaeng (nickname, real name unknown) was slightly injured by a bullet that grazed his neck, while his father Panupong was injured by a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. Both were later taken to the nearest hospital for a check-up. According to the police, they were bystanders in the fight and not directly involved.
According to local witnesses, many residents – both young and old – were outside when the incident took place. Two groups of teenagers reportedly argued over loud noises as they passed the street before grabbing firearms and firing at each other. Neighbours say more than 10 shots were fired.
In addition, locals also reported a lot of arguing and loud engine noises coming from the garage. There was once a shooting incident reported in May, but one was injured in the process. That is why they want the police to seriously investigate the incident to prevent a recurrence.
