The British government announced yesterday that it plans to donate 415,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Thailand, while the Kingdom of Thailand continues to fight the proliferation of Covid19 infections.
The vaccine donated to Thailand is one of 9 million doses the UK is giving to developing countries, 5 million of which will go to the COVAX global vaccine sharing program.
News of the donation came a day after US Senator Tammy Duckworth revealed that the US government plans to send 2.5 million doses of vaccine to Thailand.
Mr Duckworth, a Thai-American lawmaker, said the US valued its special relationship with Thailand, the region’s oldest friend and ally. The US donation of 1.54 million doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Thailand on Friday. The Ministry of Health announced that this shipment would be used to vaccinate frontline medical workers and vulnerable people.
Thailand registered a record 17,669 new Covid19 infections and 165 fatalities today.
