Put the sandbags in front of the door, lower the shutters and get your boots ready in the hallway, in the next 24 hours most of Thailand will have to deal with rainfall and storms.

The Thai Meteorological Department has just announced that the approach of Tropical Storm Conson means most regions are dealing with very wet conditions.

Tropical Storm Conson is currently moving northwest, over the central Philippines, on its way to Vietnam. In the next 24 hours, there is a 70% – 80% chance of rain in all parts of the country except the south. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue until next Monday.

According to an article by the Bangkok Post, the Royal Irrigation Department has warned of the risk of downstream tidal waves in rivers, which could be caused by torrential downpours, including in Bangkok’s Chao Phraya. Prapit Chanma of the RID says all irrigation projects in areas that may be affected have been ordered to monitor water levels.

The article goes on to say that in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, all districts have been ordered to monitor water levels of reservoirs, while some of the smaller dams are already full.

Governor Kobchai Boon-orana stated that recent rainfall means the smaller reservoirs have already reached at least 60% of their capacity. However, some larger dams can still absorb more water, provided there is no repeat of the torrential rains that hit the province last year.
