Police of the Anti-Trafficking Division has arrested Phun Pawinee Yomseedum on a court-issued arrest warrant at her home in Khon Kaen’s main district
According to the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), the woman has been accused of posing as a job broker and defrauding people of large sums of money that would be paid as salary to work as a masseuse in Japan.
Pawinee Yomseedum’s 37-year-old was charged with fraud after she used a Facebook account in her own name to advertise the recruiting service, the ATPD Sub-Division 2 commander said.
She claimed that those interested could get a job in Japan for those willing to pay her the brokerage fee of 5,900 baht each. Many transferred money to her bank account which she later closed, making contact with those who had sent her the money no longer possible.
The victims joined forces and filed a complaint with the subsection, which received an arrest warrant from the criminal court.
Pawinee denied the charges and told police she had returned the money. A background check also found several pending arrest warrants for her in employment fraud cases in Bangkok and Khon Kaen.
