Perhaps one of the most popular series of the moment: Euphoria. The second season of the teen series – which is co-produced by Drake – has been on the streaming service since the beginning of this year. Euphoria revolves around the adventures of a group of high school students, including the drug-addicted teenager Rue, played by Zendaya.
The groundbreaking superhero series Watchmen won prize after prize in 2020. The short series is set in an alternate time when masked superheroes are no longer allowed to do their work in Tulsa, America. 3. THE SOPRANOS
A series that you really shouldn’t miss – if you’ve never seen it – is The Sopranos. This classic mafia series is about much more than just organized crime. It addresses topics such as mental health, gender roles in American and Italian culture and the importance of family ties.
In the comedy series Insecure, Issa Rae plays the insecure and rather uneasy Issa. She’s approaching 30, but her relationship and career aren’t exactly going the way she wants. The fifth – and unfortunately also last – season appeared on HBO at the end of last year.
5. THE WIRE
Another classic on HBO: The Wire. The series was recently awarded the best series of the 21st century by the BBC. The Wire first appeared in 2002 and ran for five seasons until 2008. The story of the crime series is set in Baltimore and is about the drug scene and the failing police system in the city. The series has won many prestigious awards. If that doesn’t win you over, then maybe the cast will. In the series, the then very young Idris Elba and Michael B. Jordan play.
